Obituary of Preston Pugh
Mr. Preston Pugh, age 84, quietly passed from this life on Wednesday, August 9 2023 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on August 4, 1939 in Phenix City, Alabama to Willie Lee and Lillie Mae (Fleming) Pugh. Both parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elmira Pugh.
Preston was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Army National Guard. He was a supervisor at the Ford Motor Corporation where he retired. Preston was the first African American child to participate in the Lima Soap Box Derby. He was a Shiloh Church Trustee and a lifeguard at the Lima YMCA. He was a member of the Lions Club, Lima City School Board, Tuskegee Airmen, Lima Senior Booster Club and Spartan Mother’s Club. Preston also held a Black Belt in Judo.
Besides his loving wife he leaves to cherish his precious memory 1 son: Brady Pugh of Lima, OH. 3 daughters: Lisa C. (Loren) Davis of Cleveland, OH; Jenelle (Benjamin) Toles and Brandy Pugh, both of Lima, OH. 1 brother: Arthur (Linda) Pugh of Lima, OH. 1 sister: Marvis (Raymond) Bowman of Dayton, OH. 2 grandchildren: Dion Jackson, Jr. and Erin Bothwell. 2 great grandchildren: Andrew Jackson and Gabriella Jackson. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Ruby L. Pugh and Berta D. Walker.
Home going services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10:00 am at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Cleven Jones officiating.
Visitation/Wake services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Family will be present at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Jones-Clark Funeral Home.
Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery
