Mrs. Celestine Owens, age 79, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at approximately 1:35 p.m. at Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born July 20, 1942 in Hurtsboro, Alabama to the union of Thomas and Willie Mae (Cooper) Manley, Sr.; both parents preceded her in death.
She was formerly married to Harley Owens, Sr. who is deceased.
She accepted Christ in Hurtsboro, Alabama at the age of 13. Her motto was “You must be born again”. Mrs. Owens was a Homemaker and a member of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where she was in the Choir, served on the Mothers Board and the Missionary Board where she was President.
She leaves behind to cherish her precious memory 2 sons; Clinton L. Owens, Sr. and Marcus T. Owens, Sr. both of Lima. 4 daughters; Marilyn D. Manley- Williams, Roxanne D. Owens- Brown (James, Sr.) and Teresa J. Owens-Watkins all of Lima. Charlotte E. Owens of Westerville, OH. 36 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. 5 brothers; Lindsey Manley, Ulice Manley, Depree Manley, Robert Manley and Rev. C. M. Manley. 2 sisters; Ruby M. Brown of Lima and Ernestine Harris of Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son; Harley E. Owens, Jr., 3 grandchildren; Jaquala S. Brown, Dominique Williams and Bianca R. Campbell. 9 brothers; Thomas Manley, Jr., Rozell Manley, Willie M. Manley, Aaron Manley, Joe Manley, Theodis Manley, Calvin J. Goode, Sr., Jack Manley and Johnny Manley. A sister; Bertha M. Smith and 2 Son-in-Laws: Edgar Williams Sr. and Larry Watkins Sr.
Home Going Services will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. C. M. Manley, officiating and Rev. Arnold Manley, eulogizing.
Visitation/Wake will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. until time of services also at the Church
Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery
