Marcus Benton “The Gentle Giant”, age 56, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was born on February 7, 1966 in Lima, OH to Luther Benton Sr. and Willa D. (Sanders-Benton) Miles (professionally known as Ms. Ebony). His father preceded him in death.
Marcus was baptized at an early age at Greater Christ Temple. He was also a track star at Elida High School where he led them to state. After high school he attended Wilberforce University. Marcus loved watching cooking shows, his Aunt Vanessa’s lasagna and talking with his youngest daughter. Marcus had no fear, he always said “Mom you worry too much, I’m alright”. His kind presence will be greatly missed by those who loved him most.

Benton of Lima, OH; 7 brothers: His best friend, confidant, secret keeper, Luther Benton Jr, His baby brother whom he loved dearly and protected fiercely, Paul Ward Jr. (Jay-Jay) both of Lima, OH, Johnny Irons of TX, Derrick (Angela) Irons of Columbus, OH, , Cecil Benton both of Lima, OH, Jeremy Benton of Columbus, OH, and Ty Miles of Toledo, OH; 2 sisters: Rosalyn (Pua) Burton of Lima, OH and Diyamela (Trenton) Youmans of GA; a bonus sister, Shilane (Mack) Davis of Ft Wayne, IN; 3 Grandchildren; his cousin and earthly angel, Jamber Johnson and a special cousin, Tawanna Sanders both of Milwaukee, WI and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; paternal grandparents and a brother, Timothy Eckerson.
