Joel Henderson Obituary

Joel Daniel Henderson age 40, of Pikeville NC, passed away on September 14th, 2021, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 2nd 1981. Joel was born to Gilberta and Steven Joseph Henderson in Lima Ohio. He was their 5th child and second oldest son.

He is survived by his wife Jennifer Jones Henderson and children; Jaxon Henderson, Jolisa Henderson, and Donovan Jones.

Joel graduated from Lima Senior High school and went on to Bowling Green College to pursue psychology studies continued his education at Ohio State University. Joel served as the praise and worship leader at Living Word Fellowship.

 He was a mentor and father figure to his children, niece, nephew and the Uncle Pappy to his loving Adonis and many others. His mother gave him the nickname “My Hercules’” because he was a hard worker and everything he set his mind to do. He did! He took care of his sisters and the women in his life always. He never forgot a birthday. He always made us feel special on Mother’s Day and special occasions.

He was a beloved husband, son, uncle, father, and friend. His love for God shined bright through his worship and his loving nature for family and friends. His presence was like a ray of light that you couldn’t help but smile and laugh when he came in the room. Joel loved spending time at the beach with his family where he said he could always feel God's presence.

His expression of song and dance touched everyone who knew him. To know Joel was to love him. He always put a smile on your face. He had a nickname for every person he knew. He truly loved God and it showed in his daily life. He will be truly missed but never forgotten. Joel was known to overcome many physical challenges being born with a physical handicap he never let that stop him. He was an athlete and the brightest spirit in the room. He was an avid Ohio State and Philadelphia Eagles fan.

He will also be remembered for his impressive work ethic at Cellular Sales. He was an active member at Elevation Church in Raleigh, NC. where he had aspirations to join the praise and worship team.

He also leaves to cherish his memory 4 brothers; Justin Henderson, James Henderson, Jathan Henderson, Jordan  Henderson (Lorin) of Lima  5 sisters; Christina B. Johnson of Columbus.  Sarah Henderson of Lima, Stephanie R. Risnor (Shawn), Rachelle L. Marquez  (Isaac) , Jessica Pittman (Jesse) all of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Joseph C. and Dorothy (Ward) Henderson.  Paternal grandparents; George Washington and Josephine (Lyons) Jennings, Jr.

Services  will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 12:00 noon at  the Celebration Church, 1601 Rebecca Dr., Lima, OH 45805 with Pastor Steven J. Henderson, eulogizing  and Pastor Damian Tibbs, officiating.

Visitation wake will start at 10:00 a.m. until time of the services also at the Church.
