Mr. Henry Hurley, Sr., age 70, passed from this life on Friday, December 4, 2020 at approximately 10:14 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
He was born on March 19, 1950 in Decatur, Alabama to the union of Woodrow and Christine (Harvey) Hurley, Sr.; both parents preceded him in death.
On March 20, 1979 he was united in holy matrimony to Louise (Bridges) Hurley; she survives in Lima.
Mr. Hurley retired from Ford Motor Corporation as a Skill Trade Millwright. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 1219 where he served on the Civil Rights Committee. He was co-founder of Team Lima Basketball, a program that has changed kids’ lives forever. He was on Jacks Club softball Team. He was a big sponsor for kids’ basketball, track and field. He was the football coach for the Bulldogs Midget Football Team. Mr. Hurley served as the athletic director at the Bradfield Center. He was a big sponsor of the Ebony and Ivory pageant and Talent Show and for Juneteenth. He encouraged all kids' “That you can be whatever you want be if given the opportunity”.
Besides his loving wife Louise, he leaves to cherish his precious memory 5 sons; Jamie Bridges of California. Henry T. Hurley Jr., Derrick K. Hurley, Jason D. Hurley and Robin Cannon all of Lima. 6 grandchildren. 10 brothers; Albert Lee Hurley (Carolyn) of Decatur, AL. Robert Louis Hurley (Corrine) of Courtland, AL. Richard Hurley of Memphis, TN. Regnold Hurley and Larry Hurley both of Chattanooga, TN. Danny Simpson (Kathy) and James Simpson both of Lima. Lester Ricks, Vincent Ricks and Mark Walker. 3 sisters; Ramona Jones and Joyce Davis (Thomas) both of Courtland, AL. Marylee Wash Simpson of Lima. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; Aaliyah Hurley. A sister; Delores Ramsey and 5 brothers; Woodrow Hurley, Jr., Don Walker, Paul Simpson, Larry Simpson and Luther Ricks. His adoptive parents; Harry James and Josephine Simpson.
Home going services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 12:00 noon at the Lima Civic and Convention Center with Rev. Dr. B. LaMont Monford, Sr. , officiating.
Visitation/Wake services will be held on Friday, December 11 at 10:00 a.m. until time of services also at Lima Civic and Convention Center
Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery
