Minister Estella Alverta Cook, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at approximately 11:16 p.m. at Lima Convalescent Home in Lima.
Mother Cook was born on April 2, 1928 in Harrisburg, PA, to Oakford and Anna Mae (Carrington) Morris, both parents preceded her in death.
On June 10, 1944 she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Troy Cook, he preceded her in death on December 8, 1995.
Mother Cook retired from Westinghouse Corporation after many years of service. She was a faithful member of Greater Christ Temple Church where she served on the Usher Board, Nursing Home Ministry, Kitchen Committee, Women’s Ministry and was a Prayer Warrior. She was known as “Aunt Birdie” and for many in the Lima Community “Grandma Cook”, or Minister Cook to her Church family. Her love for the Lord was very important in her life and she had no problem talking to anyone about Him. She had the most precious smile that truly came from the heart. Her favorite Scripture was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.”
She leaves to cherish her precious memory a son: Troy M. Cook, Jr. of Lima, and a daughter-in-law; Kay Cook of Columbus. 9 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded by a son: Elmer Eugene Cook and a daughter; Carolyn Cook Patrick. A brother; Elmer D. Morris.
