Obituary of Carla Bernetta Lockett

Carla Lockett, (63) passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023. She was born September 30, 1959, in Youngstown, Ohio to Bennie and Jessie Lockett. She was the third child of five from this union.

She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church youth choir. Carla graduated from The Rayen School. She received a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Youngstown State University. Going on vacations, cooking for friends and family, watching the Pittsburg Steeler games and spending time with loved ones were her passions. Carla was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but she also had an enormous heart. She was generous and loyal. She was full to the brim with dietary knowledge that she gained in her life experiences while working 36 years at St. Elizabeth's Hospital as a former Dietician and in many other positions in the hospital. She will be remembered for all the heart she shared with her friends and family.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents Bennie and Jessie Lockett and brother Phillip Lockett. She is survived by her siblings Joyce (Curtis) Bufford and son Curtis, deceased brother Phillip (Lisa) Lockett and children William, Benjamin and Christina, Sheila (Paul) Sims and daughters Brandice (Adrojan) Spencer, Nia Sims, Ebony Sims, Kendra (Jaison) Petite, Paul (Tonja) Sims and Tarena (Rodney) Berry.   A host of great nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Home going services will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond D. Austin, Jr. officiating.

Visitation/Wake services will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church.
