Mr. Robert Louis Thompson, age 80, passed from this life on Monday, April 2, 2018 in Shelby County, Tennessee.
Robert was born in Florence, Alabama, on November 2, 1937 to Jimmy L. Stewart and Bernice (Thompson) Stewart Ushaw; he was reared by his Grandmother, Mrs. Satoria Boddie, until his family moved to Lima, Ohio when he was 7 years old.
On June 22, 1996 he was united in holy matrimony to Elmer Dean (Pegues) Thompson, she survives in Collierville, Tenn.
Robert attended Lima Senior High School and served in the United States Army until August 3, 1962. Robert was tutored and scouted to become a professional baseball player in Lima. He was considered an “All District Player” in Ohio. By the grace of God, Robert retired from General Motors Corporation on November 1, 1995, after 30 years of faithful service. He was a former member of St. Paul A. M. E. Church and Fourth Street Missionary Baptist Church in Lima. On July 9, 2016 Robert united with New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Germantown, Tenn.
Besides his loving wife Elmer Dean he leaves to cherish his precious memory 3 sisters; Eva L. Brown, Leola Alfred and Diane Russell all of Lima, Ohio. A brother; Clinton Upshaw, Jr. (Minnie) of Lima. An uncle; Jessie L. Thompson of Cleveland, OH. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers; William L. Stewart, Larry J. Stewart and James E. Stewart.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Mausoleum with Rev. Nathan Madison, officiating.
