Latif Wadi Kadim (Gregory ‘Greg’ Alan Hodges), 66, of Lima, OH passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, December 17, 2018. He was born on October 31, 1952 in Cleveland, OH to the late Cleo ‘Chico’ Vaughn and Annabelle Katherine ‘Katie’ Hodges Allen (husband Ovel Gene Allen also deceased). His memory will be cherished by two daughters (Heather Hodges of Johns Island, SC and Vesta Hodges Broady of Westerville, OH); two grandchildren (Maya Broady and Amare Broady); and four brothers (John Allen of Lima, Mark Vaughn of Toledo, Thomas Vaughn of Newark, DE, Kenneth Vaughn of Toledo). He was surpassed in death by another brother (Michael Allen) and was dearly loved by his nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.
Latif graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1971, and afterwards joined the United States Air Force for 10 years where he became a veteran awarded many medals of honor and achievement. He then spent more than 20 years working for the federal government in Norfolk, VA where he also served as President of the American Federation of Government Employees. During retirement he spent time substitute teaching, writing, honing his keyboard skills, exercising religiously, enjoying time with family, and exploring the Columbus, Austin and Atlanta areas before finally settling back home in Lima.
Latif never met a stranger anywhere he went, and he was always very giving of his time, love and wisdom. His words and actions positively influenced many around him, proving true one of his favorite quotes: “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” (Winston Churchill)
At his request, cremation will be performed and his ashes dispersed into the ocean. A memorial and celebration of life will be announced at a later date. We will miss him and always love him!
