Mrs. Ruthie Mae Pernell, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at approximately 4:05 p.m. at James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born on February 12, 1940 in Leland, Mississippi to Cleave and Grace (Mason) Simpson; both parents preceded her in death.

On May 10, 1969 she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Louis A. Pernell who preceded her in death on May 10, 2010.

Mrs. Pernell retired as a School Teacher from the Lima City Schools and Change Christian Academy in Denver, Colorado.  She was a member of New Life Church International where she was an Usher.  She was a former member of the Bradfield Lions and a member of the PTA Association.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory 2 daughters: Patricia A. Johnson (Tommie) and Cynthia L. Pernell both of Lima.  2 sons: Anthony L. Pernell of Lima and Sergio D. Pernell (Marci) of Ft. Wayne, IN.  11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  3 brothers: James Fields and Bernard Allen (Shirley) both of Greenville, Miss.  John Allen (Gloria) of Macomb, MI. 4 sisters:  Claudine Watson of Cleveland, OH; Ada Lee of Greenville, Miss; Viola Reese of Louisville, KY and Sherryl Bates of Detroit, MI. 

She was preceded in death by a sister: Gladys Watson.

Services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Philippian Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Darnell Williams, officiating.

Visitation/Wake services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. also at the Church.

Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery
